Black Orpingtons
|
Origin:
England
Colour:
Blacks, blue, buff or whites
Class:
Heavy breed, tinted egg layer (about 180 per year)
General:
Over the years this good looking fowl has been bred for the poultry show?s more than it?s utility aspects. But still will produce eggs even in some winter months if you lucky . They take up to two years to fully grow out.
A nice big Black Orpington rooster has been bought to keep the lovely black girls happy. He is twice the size of Beg Red (the Rhode Island Red rooster) and stands approx. 2 feet high with good black feathers, strong legs, a big comb, broad wing feathers... A very handsome man. He comes from very good showing stock.
Spring 2007:
I now have approx 12 Black Orpington Pullets & hens. Two of which I have been showing. One has had 2 seconds the other 2 3rds from 2 outings. Also in the stock I have 5 young roosters, one will be kept for an out cross the others will be sold .
These are my favourite breed of hens, they are so friendly and such fun to watch on the green grass. Even though they are not the best layers or breeders they are just so nice to have around.
